Ribbons and Pearls Necklace Tutorial

My girls love to dress up and accessorize. And I mean that in the extreme extent. My girls make girly girls look bad. Not a day goes by where my girls aren’t wearing necklaces, rings, skirts and bracelets. So I thought I would make pearl necklaces for my girls to wear to church on Sundays. Something a little fancier than the plastic bead necklaces they have in their dress-up bins.

I got the idea to make this pearl necklace from one that I own myself. I purchase this pearl necklace from Macy’s a few years ago. And I love to wear it. So I made a simplified version for the girls. And of course it’s pink pearls because pink is the theme at our house with 3 girls. If you make something inspired by Simply Modern Mom, please upload pictures of it to our Flickr group to show it off to everyone. You may be featured on Simply Modern Mom.

Supplies:

1. Thread the pearls on the wire with about 5-inch excess wire on each side of the pearls.

2. Add a spacer bead (first) and tube crimp bead (second) to each end of the pearls.

3. Use the crimper tool on the crimp bead as directed on the box. First make the groove.

4. Loop the end of the wire into the second side of the groove.

5. Cut 2 strands of ribbon about 29 inches long. Pull the ribbon through the wire loop and tighten as the half point of the ribbon (14 1/2-inch point).

6. Crimp the both sides of the crimp bead together to tighten and keep the ribbon in place.

7. Make sure the pearls and spacer bead is next to the crimp bead. But do give the wire some slack so the pearls can curve around the neck and not break the wire. Repeat steps 3 to 6 on the second side of the necklace.

8. Cut the ends of the ribbon at an angle. Then prevent fraying at the ribbon ends by putting a little bit of thread end glue on each end. Allow to completely dry, about 4 hours. And done!
